Hiya! I’m Joleanna and I’m the artist and owner of Joleanna Designs. It’s exciting you are here and I look forward to getting to know you and your dream portrait!

Painting commissioned portraits has been a huge part of my life and career the last 10 years. Everyone deserves their story told. It’s a incredible honor to get to know you, your beloved family, your cherished pets, your special moment, through a paintbrush.

My signature portrait styles are big paintings, bright pop colors, abstract design elements, metal leafing, and dramatic lighting. A belief I hold dear is that art commissioning should be straightforward, painless, and FUN.

Nope, my art style isn’t for everyone, nor do I pretend such. That’s why if you’re unsure about purchasing, I offer free consultations and have a long list of artists whom I will be happy to refer you to if we’re not the right fit. STEP 1: LET’S CHAT

Contact me and tell me about your vision. Please include size, type, budget, timeline, and reference photos. See price estimate below as a rough guide for pricing - my work is very custom so this guide is only an estimate.
You can also request a free zoom or phone consultation if you prefer that style of communication.

STEP 2: FINALIZE DETAILS

I will electronically send a commission agreement that we both sign and includes a payment plan.
You will then receive an invoice for a non-refundable 40% deposit that must be paid prior to the start of the agreed painting date.

STEP 3: CONFIRMATION & DELIVERY

Painting time!
I’ll email you photos of completed work, (unless you wish for it to be a surprise!) Once you give your OKAY your painting will be wire backed, sealed and left to cure for four days and then it will be shipped. I’ll email you a tracking number.

"We Can Always Come Back To This"

Jamel approached me a couple month before he and his wife Sarah’s anniversary with an idea for a surprise anniversary gift. He had a photo that is Sarah’s favorite of the two of them capturing an amazing date night they cherish deeply. Sadly, the photo was to low of a resolution to enlarge for a successful display, they had several disappointing attempts. The photo was still clear for a detailed portrait however, especially because he was wanting the emotion and mood of the picture as opposed to hyper-detail.

Sarah had shown preference to dramatic paintings with thick texture and warm inviting colors in their past visits to art galleries, so we were a perfect match to work in my signature styles.

First, to get the perfect size to be installed over their fireplace mantel, a gallery profile custom panel was constructed out of cedar and birch. Next, layers, upon layers of thick texture, copper metal leafing, sealant, grisaille underpainting, multiple glaze layers, and more sealant was then applied to create the effect and scene of illuminating, flickering candle light over thick abstract sweeps behind the couple.

The painting is appropriately and affectionately titled after the talented singer and writer’s song “We Can Always Come Back to This” - Chris Pierse whom the artist was listening to and inspired by for the duration of the painting process.

The commission was a huge success and is now my most popular piece to date, they are thrilled to have it as a part of their art collection.

I challenged myself to 1) have three animals in one painting & 2) work in a yellow and green palette which is something I have struggled with in the past.

These three get along well but still are not always each other’s biggest fans! So I took three separate photos and combined them for less drama. I couldn't help but add in their expressions some accurate feelings though.
